Gertrude Sylvia (Sparks) Gaustad, 94, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013. Services will be Wednesday, December 11 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton, Texas with Pastor Johnson-Summers officiating. Visitation at the church will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Norse Church Cemetery. Visitors are welcome to come by Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Tuesday, December 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. to pay their respects.Gertrude was born October 9, 1919 to parents James and Ida Sparks. She grew us around Clifton and lived in the Norse and Turkey Creek areas. Gertrude was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton and was baptized and confirmed there June 14, 1972.She married Emerald Gaustad June 17, 1958. They lived in Waco for all their married life. She moved back to Clifton after her husband's death in 1981. Gertrude was always caring for people. She was a housekeeper and nanny for Dr. Colgin in Waco for a number of years. When she had the time, Gertrude would also help take care of her mother. She cared for her brother, Owen (Buddy) Sparks for close to 7 years until his death in 1999. She then moved to Temple, to live with her sister Ima and her family.Gertrude was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emerald Gaustad; her parents, Jim and Ida Sparks, and five brothers.She is survived by her brother, Merrell Sparks and sisters, Ima Joyce Sorley and Jewell Finstad.
