Geneva VanZandt died peacefully in her home on January 25, 2013, after a courageous battle against leukemia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn VanZandt. She is survived by her children, Teresa Hardeman Martin, D.D.S, and her husband, John; Elizabeth Hardeman Beach, J.D., and her husband, Andy; and Lent Allen Hardeman, M.S., and his wife, Desiree; and by six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Rachel, and Justin Martin; Rebekah Martin Van Someren; and Caroline and Thomas Beach. Geneva was born on June 22, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, and spent her childhood in Houston. After high school, she attended Rice University on full academic scholarship. She left her studies to marry and rear her three children in Waco. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She resumed college and received her degrees in biology and education with highest honors from Baylor University. She was a biology and earth science teacher for many years in Waco schools at Tennyson, Reicher, Mountainview, and China Spring, and she was a respected and esteemed teacher to generations of students. She was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church and was devoted to her life group there. Her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ encouraged many others. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren who love her and will greatly miss her. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. at Moody Cemetery in Moody, Texas.
