Obituary

F. Charles "Charlie" Baird passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at his residence. A burial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 23 at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, with The Rev. Jeff Fisher officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 22, at St. Alban's Episcopal Mahan Commons Room. Charles was born to Robert Vernon and Willie Gaye Stacy Baird in Coleman, Texas on April 22, 1941. He and Gail Walker were married at Christ Episcopal Church in Laredo, Texas on July 3, 1971. Charles graduated in 1959 from Coleman High School and with a degree in engineering from Texas Tech University in 1965. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and spent his entire career with USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service. He retired January 1, 2000 with 37 years of Federal service, civilian and military. Since retirement he was very involved in volunteering with his church, Carter Bloodcare Services, and with Baylor Institute for Learning in Retirement. He was a member of Waco Rotary Club. Survivors include his wife, Gail Baird; sons, Rob of New York City and Reese who recently completed serving an assignment with the Peace Corps in Cameroon; brothers, Robert of Georgetown and Glenn of Ft. Worth; sister-in-law, Dr. Sara Walker-Kay of Columbia, MO; and several nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 305 N. 30th, Waco, TX 76710.
