Esteen KirkpatrickSeptember 6, 1923 – September 15, 2008 On Sunday, September 7, 2008, the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Esteen Kirkpatrick hosted a reception commemorating her 85th birthday. On Monday, September 15, 2008, Esteen went to be with the Lord. The home going celebration will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2625 South 18th, with Pastor Joe N. Bedford officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors at 4400 W. Waco Dr. Viewing will be at the church, 9:30 -10:30 Saturday, one hour prior to the services. Esteen was the first of five children, born to Eddie and Francis (Green) Cummings. On December 28, 1942, she married Elias "Kirk" Kirkpatrick. At the time of his death on December 21, 2006, Esteen and Kirk were just one week shy of their 64th wedding anniversary. Esteen was a lifelong Baptist and through her quiet witness, persuaded "Kirk" to become a Baptist. She served for more than 25 years as chair of the Women's Day Culinary Committee at Greater Zion, and was a member of the Usher Board at Greater Zion until her health would no longer allow. Esteen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kirk; brother, Willie Ed Cummings; two sisters, Veria Cummings Campbell and Ernestine Cummings Riley; and one great-granddaughter, Gionika Whitfield. She is survived by three sons, Winston (Consuelo) Kirkpatrick of Grand Prairie, Wayne Kirkpatrick of Iraq and Carvel (Clarice) Kirkpatrick of Waco; three daughters, Dr. Eddie Jewel (Vernon) Lockridge of Waco, June Whitfield of Waco and Winona Kirkpatrick of Irving; son-in-law, Curtis Whitfield of Waco; daughter-in-law, Antonia (Vickie) Kirkpatrick of Waco; 13 grandchildren, DeLeah Lockridge, Delsia Lockridge-Contreras, Winston Kirkpatrick, Sean Kirkpatrick, Jason Kirkpatrick, Ginger Whitfield, Demetria DeGrate, Curtis Whitfield, Seanda Nicole Kirkpatrick Lewis, Anthony Kirkpatrick, Devin Horn, Crissy Kirkpatrick and Carla Kirkpatrick Ybarra; 17 great-grandchildren, Eliah Contreras, Jerrod Hogan, Tyrasha DeGrate, Almear DeGrate, Treviania Kirkpatrick, Marquis Lewis, Tevin Lewis, Tierra Horn, Dallas Rodrigues, Devin Horn, Trevin Horn,Tredevian Horn, Vannety Bazan, Aryana Ybarra, Alyana Ybarra, and Nina Esteen Kirkpatrick due on October 20, 2008; and sister, Deria Cummings of Lewisville. She also leaves to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
