Obituary

Edward Theodore Welk, 95, of Waco, Texas, formerly of Westminster, MD and Lehigh Acres, FL, passed away on March 8, 2014. He was born on February 16, 1919 to Harry and Florence Welk. Mr. Welk married Ruth Catherine Dell on July 5, 1941; they were married for 71 years before she passed away on November 10, 2012.Ed grew up near Taneytown, MD. He served in the United States Navy in WWII. He worked for Glenn L. Martin Co. (now Lockheed-Martin) near Baltimore for 28 years and then the water department in Westminster, always farming on the side. Mr. Welk was a member of St. Benjamin's Lutheran Church in Westminster. After retiring to Florida, he was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, helping establish the Memorial Rose Garden and building of the bell tower. He volunteered at the local hospital and Master Gardeners Club.He is survived by daughters; Janet (Mrs. Donald) Holland of Waco, TX, Sharon Welk of Melbourne, FL, Sonja (Mrs. Eddie) Johnson of Westover, MD, Barbara (Mrs. George) Short of Henderson, MD and Kathy Welk of Coatesville, PA, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law; Helen Carr of Westminster, Wilda Dell of Taneytown, MD and Naomi Welk of Frizzellburg, MD and numerous nieces, nephews and cousin.Memorial services will be held at a later date when Ed and Ruth's ashes will be placed in the Memorial Rose Garden.
