Doug BineAugust 27, 1911 ~ April 30, 2008 Doug Bine, 96, of Waco, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at a local nursing home. Services will be 11 am, Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Visitation with family and friends will be from 5 to 7 pm, Friday, May 2, at the funeral home. Paul Doug Bine was born on August 27, 1911 to Josephine Baugh and Otto Ray Bine in Waco, Texas. Doug played semi-pro baseball several years after graduating Waco High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Dec. 1942 until June of 1944. He was an avid bowler over the years and bowled in leagues out in California as well as here in Texas. Doug was considered one of the best Hawaiian steel guitar players around. He had a Texas Swing Band by the name of "Dixie Ramblers". He hung out with Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, Johnny Gamble, Joe Johnson and Buddy Woody, just to name a few. He worked as a plumber for fifty years before his retirement and was also a member of Central Christian Church. On January 26, 1996 Doug married Nellie Mae Davidson. Preceding Doug in death were his parents; and wife, Madge Davis Bine in 1993. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 12 years, Nell Bine of Waco; daughter, Barbara Bartosh and husband, James of Waco; step-son, Kenneth Sandel and wife, Lillie of Robinson; grandchildren, Melinda Baugh and husband, Rodney and Ray Bartosh and wife, Gianetta; great-grandchildren, Bryan and Courtney Baugh and Olivia and Kyle Bartosh. Pallbearers will be Ray Bartosh, Rodney Baugh, Billy Davis, Kenneth Sandel, and Doug Vrana.
