Dorothy Mae Truehitt Netherland passed away peacefully at her residence Friday, May 5, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born January 22, 1923, to Archie Truehitt and Alice Pierce.Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife and caring mother to her three children. She spent 32 years outside of the home in service at General Tire. After retirement she traded in her red plaid lunchbox for her beloved title of MaMaw. She delighted in making memories, sharing cookies and spending time with her grand kids and great grandkids. She touched all of our lives and taught us the lessons, "You gotta be tough," the importance of making Memories and gathering together for family Waltons. And, we always remember her farewell, "I love you, sugar." Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, F.A. Netherland, parents, granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Payne, brother, William Truehitt, sisters Ruth McWorther, Jewel Farmer and Polly McCurdy. Survivors include sons Ronald A. Netherland and wife Carolyn, Kenneth A. Netherland and wife Mary Dea, and daughter Janice Lynn Netherland Payne and husband Jimmy; grandsons, Lance Payne and wife Sheila, David Netherland and wife Tracy, and Clint Netherland and wife Beth; granddaughters Kelly Faulkenbery and husband Corbett, Tammy Shinder-Netherland and husband Michael, and Karen Scanlan and husband Matt; great- grandchildren Garrett, Cameron, Logan and Payton Faulkenbery, Megan and Kayla Payne, Emily, Andrew and Rachel Netherland Crepelle and husband James, Neva Drue, Ellary, and Max Shinder, Maddie and Lauren Scanlan, Luke and Jake Netherland; sister, JoAnne Teague and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who cherish her memory.Visitation will be held Sunday, May 7th form 3-5 p.m. at Connally Compton Funeral Home on West Waco Drive. Graveside service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 3:30 at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco. Pallbearers will be Clint Netherland, Lance Payne, David Netherland, Andrew Netherland, Garrett Faulkenbery, and Cameron Faulkenbery. The family would like to thank Bluebonnet Hospice for their support, comfort, and care during this difficult time. We would also like to thank Dr. Scott Blattman and staff for their years of steadfast care. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to the Waco Humane Society or Alzheimer's Association of Waco.
