H. D. "Dave" Taylor, Jr.March 18, 1953 ~ June 26, 2008 H. D. "Dave" Taylor, Jr., 55, of Temple, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, June 30, 2008 at Lorena Cemetery with the Dr. Ron Milne officiating and the Masons following. Visitation with family and friends will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 29, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. Dave was born to Bobbie Lee Robertson and Herman David Taylor, Sr. in Temple, Texas on March 18, 1953. He became a Christian at an early age and was baptized at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple. Dave served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War where he received a bronze star for bravery. In 1973 he began a 33 year career with the postal service. His various jobs included a Tour III Superintendent of mail processing, plant manager and acting Postmaster of the Waco Post Office, and in April 1994 he became Postmaster in Copperas Cove and retired in 2006. Dave was a workaholic who was dedicated to his employees, friends and family. In 1981 he became a 32nd degree Master Mason with Waco Lodge 92 and was also a Shriner with the Karem Temple. Dave lived his entire life in the central Texas area where he loved to fish. Saturday's were devoted to movie dates with Myrtle and fishing! When Myrtle was alive they enjoyed traveling with close friends, Carol and David Ingram (whom he loved like another brother) of Waco. Dave was a beloved son, husband, father and grandpa and will live on in our hearts forever! Preceding him in death were his father, H. D. Taylor, Sr.; and wife, Myrtle F. Taylor. Those left behind to cherish his memory are sons, Joe D. Taylor and wife, Lisa of Orange Grove, and Jared M. Taylor of Temple; daughters, Kristi Patterson and husband, Jeff of Temple and Tracy West of Temple; grandchildren, Travis and Samuel Taylor, Kailynne Goldman, Sydney Patterson, Chaney Weaver and Chandler and Braxton West; mother, Bobbie Taylor of Waco; brother, William Paul Taylor and wife, Rhoda of Moody; and sister, Martha Ann Senkel and husband, Clarence of Leander. Pallbearers will be Larry Demps, Kraig Foster, Frank Gomez, Steve Gonzalez, David Ingram, Audie New, Anthony Palomino and Quinn Venable.
