Cullen W. Lawson, 83, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2003, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 23rd, at First United Methodist Church, the Reverend Steve Ramsdell officiating. Interment will follow in Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.Mr. Lawson was born September 6, 1920, in Speegleville, Texas, to Robert Lee and Emma Delilah Scott Lawson. He married Winnie Mae Lawson August 30, 1941, in Ennis, Texas. During WWII, he served in the United States Army in the Signal Corps. With his wife, Mr. Lawson co-owned the Lawson Insurance Agency for over 50 years. He had a variety of outside interests during his lifetime, one of which was pitching for the Waco Pirates baseball team. He also was a king of dominoes and 84, as well as being an avid fisherman. A long-time member of First United Methodist Church, he worked with their Meals on Wheels program for over 25 years.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on May 17, 2000, and a grandson, Lance Ellison Burns in 1991.Mr. Lawson is survived by his children: Norma Jean Burns and husband, Ellison of Waco; Bud Lawson and wife, Arden of Blanco; and Linda Stanford and husband, Tommy of Plano; grandchildren: Dr. Elizabeth Berry and husband, Dr. Jason Berry of Granbury; Christy Sue Burns of Dallas; Kent Lawson and wife, Genny of Blanco; Whitney Lawson of Austin; Trey Stanford and Landon Stanford, both of Plano; great-grandsons: Blake, Brady, Seaton and Lawson; sisters-in-law: Lois Lawson of Waco and Una Lee Lawson of Speegleville; his secretary, Toni Talley of Waco; his faithful cat: O.J.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
