LeRoy Christ Martin Akemann passed away August 1, 2007 at his residence. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, August 8 from 6-8 pm. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Connally/Compton Chapel with Reverend Jon Gartman officiating. Inurnment will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Chris was born November 26, 1921 to Herman and Elsie M. (Wilder) Akemann in Wells, Minnesota. On April 24, 1940 he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, being honorably discharged on May 10, 1946. During this time, he received several medals and the Presidential Unit Citation. He then joined the U. S. Air Force, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant, after 20 years, 10 months and 25 days of faithful service. After military retirement, he was employed by the U. S. Postal Service. He retired after many years of serving the Waco area as a mail carrier.On June 27, 1951 Chris married Jackie Gartman in the China Spring Baptist Church and remained married for 56 years. He loved his family, enjoyed being outdoors, attended Central Baptist Church, was a member of the Masonic Baylor Lodge No. 1235 and a member of the local VFW.He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Christie Akemann; brothers, Romaine Akemann, and Keith Akemann; and a sister, Shirley Lura.Survivors include his loving wife, Jackie of Waco; Daughters, Becky Fulmer & husband, Gloyce of Winter Garden, FL; Cherie Collins & husband, Kenneth of Robinson; sons, Bruce Akemann of Urbandale, IA; David Akemann of Angelton, TX; grandchildren, Jodi & Jason Fulmer of Winter Garden, FL; Chris Collins & wife, Amanda of Hewitt; Shelly Hill & husband, Ashley of Lorena; Kelly Collins & fiancé, Eddy Ruby of Robinson; great grandsons, Daniel Collins; Haden, Dalton & Collin Hill; sisters, Evelyn Iverson of Albert Lea, MN; Darlene Pyzick & Marcy Babcock of Wells, MN; Joann Dahl of Babbitt, MN; brother, Alvin Akemann of Babbitt, MN; numerous nieces & nephews.After the graveside services, there will be food & fellowship with the family at 710 Margaret in Robinson.
