Carroll Gene Stone, 58, of Lorena, passed away after a hard-fought battle on Friday, May 6, 2005. Graveside services were held at 1:00 pm Monday, May 9, 2005, at Lorena Cemetery, with Dr. Steve Sadler and Chaplain Buddy Sipes officiating. Carroll was born April 1, 1947, at Mabank, Texas, to L. V. and Georgie Jean Gordon Stone. He was employed by TXU Electric out of Dallas, a position from which he retired after 25 years. He was a man who loved the land and found great satisfaction in raising cattle and watching things grow in his garden. Even his leisure time was spent enjoying the outdoor life as an avid hunter and fisherman.He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Diane Stone of Lorena; one son, Jeremy Stone of Mabank; a daughter, Shannon Holcomb and husband John of Mabank; bonus sons, Mike Bracken and wife, Vickie of McGregor and Steve Bracken and wife, Danielle of Hewitt; grandchildren, Riley Bracken, Micah Stone, Brooke & Matthew Holcomb, Lacy Johnson and husband Andy, and Robert Haddock; great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Kyndle Johnson; brothers, Ronny Stone and wife, Vera, Charlie Stone, and Ben Stone and wife, Pat, all of Mabank; one sister, Debbie and Willie Pierce of Oregon; a favorite uncle, Leroy Gordon and wife Mary of Brownsboro and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to 2nd floor nurses at St. Catherine Center, Providence Hospice nurses, and 3-North nurses at Providence Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Carroll.
