Bootie OswaltAugust 3, 1949 ~ March 20, 2007 Martha Ann Kreulen Oswalt left this life on March 20, 2007. A memorial celebration will be at 1:00pm, Friday, March 23rd, 2007 at the Highland Baptist Church in Waco with the Rev. Barry Camp officiating. A private family burial will take place earlier at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 22, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. Martha Ann, known to family and friends as Bootie, was born in Baton Rouge, LA on August 3, 1949 to Morris Mercx and Julia Bernice Kreulen. She lived in Tyler, Texas spending most of her childhood life with her sister Mandy and cousins Jennifer, Michie, Vicki, Steve, and Chuck. She graduated 5th in her class from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler - where she met her life long friends who later became known as 'The Group'. In the fall of 1969, Bootie began her freshman year at William & Mary where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was one of only two students accepted that year from Texas. At William & Mary she worked as a trainer to the football team coached by the legendary Lou Holtz. In 1974, she was introduced to the love of her life, Chuck Oswalt, by family. Chuck and Bootie married May18, 1975 in Ft. Worth, TX. Bootie joined Chuck in San Antonio where she taught at a Christian elementary school. Bootie took every opportunity to teach children about Jesus. In July of 1977, Bootie gave birth to their son, Chase, while Chuck finished medical training in Galveston. Nurturing and caring for Chuck and Chase became her primary passion in life. The family moved to Fort Worth where Chuck began his medical practice. They then relocated to Graham where Bootie impacted many people and friends with her gentle, compassionate and fun-loving and joyous nature. Bootie had a brilliant mind and was the perpetual winner of Bible Trivia and Trivial Pursuit. In 1998 the Oswalt family moved to Waco. Bootie was an active member of Highland Baptist Church, a children's Sunday school teacher and attended Bible studies. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and an avid ballroom dancer. She showed the love of Jesus in every aspect of her life. Preceding Bootie in death was her father, Morris Mercx Kreulen; brother-in-law, Dr. Bill Oswalt; nephew, Andrew Swift; and niece, Bethany Swift. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 32 years, Dr. Chuck Oswalt of Waco; son Chase and wife Amy of Dallas; daughter Kathryn Turcott and husband Troy and granddaughters Natalie and Micah of Missouri City; her mother, Bernice Kreulen and sister, Mandy Vinson of Tyler.
