Bessie Mae CareyAugust 21, 1915 ~ July 27, 2009 Bessie Mae Carey, 93, of Waco, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009. Graveside services will be 10a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. Bessie Mae was born on Aug. 21, 1915 to Lena May Lucas and William Bertie Richardson in Waco. She attended Waco High School and graduated in 1936. On May 30, 1936 she was married to Joel Langston Carey Sr. Bessie was a member of Lorena Baptist Church and a past member of Edgefield Baptist Church. She worked in J. M. Woods Clothing Manufacturing, as well as others, and retired after 30 years in the business, in Feb. of 1982. She was an endowed 50 year member of E. C. Cannon in Waco and she and her husband started the Lorena Eastern Star Chapter #1124 in 1982. Preceding her in death were her husband, Joel; and son, Joel Langston Carey, Jr. Left behind to cherish her memory are daughter, Doryce Payne and husband, Fred of Bellmead; son, Bertie Carey and wife, Pearl of Lorena; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.
