Aurelio (Howard) Corpus, 84, passed away at Ridgecrest Retirement Center, July 12, 2015.All funeral services were private, with only his family attending.The rosary was held at Connally Compton Funeral Directors on July 14. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Benjamin Magnaye officiating on July 15. Burial with full military honors was at Oakwood Cemetery with his family. Mr. Corpus was born November 12, 1930 in Waco, Texas to Celso and Eugenia (Hernandez) Corpus. He lived in Waco until 1940 then moved to Chicago, IL where he graduated high school a few years later. Upon his graduation at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S Air Force. He was a Korean War Veteran and served ten years in the Air Force on active duty with 14 years with the Texas Army National Guard in Waco, TX.Mr. Corpus was awarded the U.N. Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal(2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, A Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service, Reserve Achievement Medal(2nd Award), and the Marksman Qualification Badge.After his retirement he worked for E.O.A.C. and WISD for many years. He was an active member of Sacred Heart in the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion post 121.He is survived by his loving wife, Clara Lopez Corpus, of Waco; siblings, Lorenza Santos, Antonio Corpus and Tom Corpus, all of Chicago; sister-in-law's, Hope Martinez, of Lorena and Gloria Arechiga and husband Robert, of Hewitt; many nephews, nieces , grand nephews and grand nieces. He is also survived by special nieces and nephew who lovingly cared for him during his long illness, Margaret Hernandez, Liza Hernandez and Louis Arechiga and his loving great niece, Kristen, who brought him so much joy so many years during his life and who was at his side along with her mother, Margaret at his death.Pallbearers were the United States Army and honorary pallbearers were his nephews and grand nephews: Robert Daniel Martinez, Andrew Lopez, Adan Hernandez, Aram Hernandez, Mark Lopez, Esteban Hernandez, Marcos Hernandez, Louis J. Arechiga, Jr., and Eric Lopez.The family would like to thank Providence Hospice for the love and care they gave our Uncle and a special thank you to the nurses at Ridgecrest Retirement Home for their excellent and compassionate care. Also the friendly and constant visits from St. Jerome Catholic Church, Mike Kelly for his final visit on Sunday and whose prayers and counseling gave Aurelio the courage to let go and go with our Lord.
