Aubrey Wayne BennettApril 24, 1926 ~ April 8, 2010 Aubrey Wayne "Smokey" Bennett, 83, formerly of Waco, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Centennial Hospital in Frisco, TX. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 12, 2010 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with Pastor Mike Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the funeral home. Aubrey Wayne was born April 24, 1926 to George and Lecil (Crow) Bennett in Hillsboro, TX. Mr. Bennett spent 2 years in the U.S. Navy and 5 years working at a sheet metal shop in Hillsboro. He was a Civil Service worker at James Connally A.F.B for 35 years before moving to Arizona to finish his career and retire. "Smokey" enjoyed life. He loved to fish and hunt with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 49 years, Nell Bennett. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his only child, Elizabeth Ann Scroggs and her husband, John from Tyler; sister, Geneva Smith of Bedford; grandchildren, Brenda Skiff and husband, Joe of Austin, David Scroggs and wife, Buffie of Bullard, Nelda Kirk and husband, Ricky of Waco; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sisters-in-law, Ruby Wright and husband, Marshall of Lorena, Dee Busch and husband, Ed of Waco, Ginger Dollar and husband, Tommy of Gholson; brother-in-law, Gerald Barnes and wife, Vera of Springfield, MO; companion, Barbara Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
