Obituary

Artie Barnett, 91, of Waco died Friday, Feb 11, 2022 at a Waco hospital. Visitation with the family and viewing will be on Tuesday, Feb 15 at 1:30 PM at First United Methodist Church of Waco followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Feb 16th at 11:00 AM at Steep Hollow Cemetery in Bryan, TX. Rev. Ryan Barnett, lead pastor at First United Methodist Church of Waco will officiate at both ceremonies.

Artie was born Artie Pearl Powers in Bryan July 14, 1930, the daughter of Colie P. Powers and Mary Elizabeth Bullock. She and her husband, Anson C. Barnett were married for 52 years until his death in 1998. Anson and Artie moved many times during the first 20 years of their marriage, residing in various locations in Texas, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona before settling down in Waco in 1965. For a period of 50 years, she taught private piano and then in her later years, worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the School of Education at Baylor University and ended her career as an Administrative Assistant at the City of Waco Mount Carmel Water Plant. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother.

Artie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; her brothers Lum Otta Powers, John Clyde Powers and William Nathan Powers; and sisters Ina Ilean Dyess, Cora Mae Jones and Maudell Elizabeth Wilkerson.

Survivors include son, Charles Barnett of Waco and his sons Matthew and Alex Barnett; son Ron Barnett and his wife Susan Barnett of Waco, their son Jeffrey Barnett and his wife Brittany, their children Grace, Ben, Mercy, Luke, Zoey and Austin; their daughter Allison Hammond and her husband, Richard Duke Hammond, their children Caleb, Noah, Abigail and Isaac; and daughter Megan Dunigan, her husband Corey Dunigan and their children Andrew, Nathaniel and Callie; and daughter, Lisa Barnett Schellenberg of Monument, CO and her daughters Jacqi and Emma
