Janet Gibson Emerson

Janet Faye Gibson Emerson was born on April 1, 1946, in San Diego, California. She started attending Sunday school when she was three years old. She was a true believer of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Janet married and was sealed to Harold Lloyd Emerson, on February 19, 1966, at the Los Angeles California Temple. She is the mother of four children who she loved so very much. She had a love to learn. She started classes at Grossmont College where she earned her Associates Degree. She supported her husband and his career which led to several moves across the country: New Hampshire, Texas, Ohio, and back to California. She received her bachelor’s degree from Cal State Dominguez Hills, and then obtained a master’s degree in English Literature. She got a job teaching in Kentucky. She loved teaching and was very good at it. Her love and partner, Harold Emerson, passed in March 1997. At that time, she had moved back to Texas and then back to California. A few years later she met Don Asay, who she married. They spent the next twenty-two years traveling and relocating their home…even a brief stay in Rosarito, Mexico. She finally felt like Henderson, Nevada was “home.” She passed into the loving arms of those that passed before her. She was preceded in death by her parents Rose and Lee Gibson, her grandson Joseph Alvarez, and her sister Susie Sohn. Her surviving family is her children Tony Emerson, Kirsten Alvarez, (Joe), Greg Emerson, Julie Emerson-Gaunt, (Michael), her second husband Don Asay, and his children and many grandchildren which she loved. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher to many. Until we meet again.
